“I’d be amazed, angry and disappointed if he left Newcastle” – Shearer shares thoughts on Isak to Chelsea

Alan Shearer has admitted he would be “amazed, angry and disappointed” if Alexander Isak left the club amid ongoing interest from Chelsea.

The Blues are in the market for a new striker this summer and have agreed a deal to sign 18-year-old forward Marc Guiu from Barcelona, but are reportedly still looking to bring in another striker.

Chelsea are looking for a striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson, and have been linked with a host of names across Europe including Jhon Duran, Samu Omorodion and Jonathan David.

However, it appears the Blues could potentially be plotting a blockbuster move for Newcastle’s Isak amid the Magpie’s ongoing issues ahead of Sunday’s profit and sustainability deadline.

It was reported earlier this week that Chelsea had made an enquiry to Newcastle over the 24-year-old, and were told it would cost more than the £115m they paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo last summer.

New reports emerged on Friday evening that the Blues had been in fresh contact with Newcastle over the Sweden international who scored 21 Premier League goals last season.

Whether Chelsea decide to make a bid or not remains to be seen but the fact the club have twice contacted Newcastle surely means something must be under consideration.

Newcastle legend Shearer has backed Isak to ignore the Chelsea rumours, but admitted he would be angry and disappointed if he left.

“I’ m not that worried, I don’t think he’ll leave, I don’t think it can happen,” he told Betfair.

“Newcastle supporters would go mad if it happened, what he’s brought to Newcastle and how good a player he is, I’m not sure Chelsea could afford him either.

“I’ve seen the reports and I don’t think there’s anything in that at all. I’d be amazed, angry and disappointed if he left Newcastle.”

Given Newcastle’s issues with PSR Chelsea should absolutely test the waters by putting some money on the table to test their resolve, but ultimately it appears unlikely this deal happens, and if it did it would certainly send shockwaves through the Premier League.
