Underwhelming striker name to Chelsea just seems inevitable with potential swap

One story that just doesn’t seem to go away involving Chelsea just makes it look inevitable that it might eventually just happen now.

We all know that Chelsea are in the hunt for a new striker this summer, and they are continuing to be linked with a number of potential new names for that role.

Sources: Players reaction to Enzo Maresca plus the director who pushed the appointment

There has been some big names linked such as Victor Osimhen from Napoli, but that has now seemingly been ruled out by top sources.

The likes of Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig continue to be mentioned as well, and there is clearly a real interest there from Chelsea.

But the name Jhon Duran from Aston Villa just will not go away, and I am starting to get a feeling that Duran to Chelsea is just becoming inevitable and might actually happen, especially with all the latest reporting yesterday.

Duran to Chelsea feels like it’s going to happen

Duran to Chelsea would be massively underwhelming

First of all, the reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic once again mentioned Duran with Chelsea in his latest report yesterday.

This was added into a report saying that Aston Villa have held talks over signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. He says Chelsea also retain an interest in Duran and he is amongst the candidates for the new number 9 position.

And then The Guardian’s Jacob Steinburg reported similar with his latest update. And he even mentions a potential swap deal.

He says Aston Villa could boost their chances of reaching an agreement with Chelsea for Conor Gallagher by including Jhon Durán as part of the deal. Chelsea have been monitoring the Colombian striker since January.

To me this just really starts to feel like something that could happen. We know that Chelsea seem very keen to sell Gallagher, and we know they want a striker and have looked at Duran before. It would be a massively underwhelming signing when Chelsea really need a bigger name to come in up top.

  1. Of course we should buy Duran and sell Connor Gallagher. This would continue our wonderful record of signing top quality strikers e.g Jackson et al and also our enviable record of discardng worthless fringe players like Salah, Kante, Debruyne and lets not forget the brilliant signings in defence, Disaster, sorry Disasi, Cucarella. One can only wait in breathless anticipation the next chapter or brilliant acquisitions by dumb and dumber. Perhaps raiding the National League for our next Manager in about 6 months or buy the Top scorer in the Lancashire Sunday Leagues.
