(Video): Pochettino sacked because he wanted to keep these 2 players claims pundit

Rory Jennings was on Talksport yesterday speaking about the removal of Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager. It’s hard to disagree with him in the way he lays out events here.

He said that the reasons were obvious – Pochettino wanted Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah in his squad next season as key players, while those upstairs had already decided they were going to be sold.

Whether it was specifically that pair, or just the way that those decisions represented the way that he was clearly not going to have his opinions taken into account, it was enough to make Pochettino want to go. Those in charge don’t want a manager who will question their decisions, so they were happy to make it happen.

It’s a very worrying precedent to set, especially when you then replace the coach with a relative unknown who seems to have been chosen on the basis that he will be totally pliable.

You can see him making his point in the clip embedded here, with this point coming after 3 minutes:

  1. The new owners want to create their own masterpiece. And what’s done is done. They want to spent their money on a new coach, and so do I, want to spend their money on a new coach. We have nothing to lose, that we wouldn’t have lost anyway with Potch. Besides, I couldn’t understand him. Some bad decisions he made for sure, but loosing 5 nil to Arsenal, that was no good. It just made you wonder what would’ve happened in the previous matches without Palmer. So we dont need luck or Potch as long as we got Palmer. He’ll be Chelseas lucky charm, Kante, De Bruyn and Salah for the next decade. Its exciting times, and its going to be a good season I feel. So lets embrace the positivity.
