Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach on Monday afternoon with the Italian signing a five year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The 44-year-old will be under pressure from the off, and has been chosen as the man to try and get Chelsea back into the Champions League and win silverware.
Chelsea’s players were upset and disappointed with Mauricio Pochettino’s departure with many expressing their feelings through social media posts, but now all attention must turn to working under the new manager.
Despite only having one full year of senior coaching experience under his belt, Maresca is highly regarded within the game and worked as an assistant under Pep Guardiola in Manchester City’s treble winning season, as well as guiding Leicester to the Championship title.
Speaking after England’s win over Bosnia-Herzegovina last night Gallagher described Maresca’s appointment as really exciting.
It remains to be seen if the 24-year-old will be at the club to play under the Italian given the uncertainty surrounding his future, with the Blues looking to sell the midfielder.
