$21m deal done – defender has signed his Chelsea contract

ESPN’s Sports Center has today got a man on site somewhere in the world with news about our latest signing.

Aaron Anselmino has been linked for a month at least, with constant rumours that the deal is done. Well, now it really looks like it is. The 19 year old has apparently signed his contract with the club, completing an $18m move which includes a potential $3m in bonus payments.

The rangy defender looks a real talent, although he’s played only a handful of first team minutes, so the price certainly feels a little steep.

But he’s desperate to join, as his quotes from a couple of days ago revealed:

“I’m very happy, everything happened very quickly. Since I was a little boy, I dreamed of this, things are going well and I hope they continue like this. Every footballer dreams of this opportunity, I’m very happy.”

The thoughts of the Blues scouts, mentioned by the Athletic in their piece on the move, are that the youngster is “rich enough in potential to be a Blues stalwart.” Let’s hope so.

No rest for Anselmino who needs to get back on track after distractions

There’s no rest for Anselmino of course – he is already returning to Buenos Aires to return to the Boca squad under Diego Martinez, where he will remain on loan until the end of the South American season – and perhaps longer. His attempts to break into the first team picture have rather been stalled by all this transfer talk, as well as some frustrating injuries.

Now that this move is cleared up and he knows he has until at least January playing back in his home, he will be desperate to make the biggest impact possible to show his boyhood club what he can do before an exciting move to Europe early next year.
