£30m asking price set for regular Chelsea starter says Fabrizio Romano

Trevoh Chalobah has been the focus of a lot of attention at Chelsea this week after he was left out of the USA tour to try and force him to find a move away from the club.

Fabrizio Romano has been exclusively reporting on the situation today, putting a price on the defender:

“Trevoh Chalobah’s future is in doubt after he was left out of their pre-season tour and my understanding is that Chelsea are prepared to sell Chalobah for a fee in the region of £30m,” Romano said in quotes picked up by CaughtOffside.

“He’s leaving this summer for sure, and is open to clubs in both the Premier League and other leagues. Nothing is imminent now – from what I heard he wants to take his time to consider all the options available.”

From what we’ve heard all summer and even last year, Chalobah is only interested in leaving if an option providing European football comes up. He’s got a long contract at Chelsea, and won’t be forced into leaving just because the people upstairs want to balance the books.

A small price to pay for a proven Premier League defender

That’s a very reasonable asking price for a player who has only just turned 25, is versatile and hard working and has bags of talent.

There is something of a mystery which has been observed already about how little interest there is in Chalobah compared to how good he is and how good he has been. We’re not sure if scouts are picking up on something we’re not – he’s really brilliant for us despite playing in some bad teams.

The speculation is that his agents have always made it very clear that he doesn’t want to leave, discouraging serious interest or even rumours about teams coming in for him.
