$20m teenager in London to undergo medical ahead of Chelsea move

Aaron Anselmino is set to undergo his medical in London on Monday ahead of his move to Chelsea according to Fabrizio Romano.

If all goes to plan the 19-year-old will become the club’s sixth signing from South America since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022.

The Blues have already signed two of South America’s biggest talents in Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez who will join in 2025, whilst the likes of Andrey Santos, Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington have also been signed from the continent.

Anselmino to undergo Chelsea medical in London

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market with seven new faces coming through the door, as they look to strengthen their squad in an attempt to get back into the Champions League next season.

The club are currently in America on their pre-season tour, but that hasn’t stopped them from conducting transfer business with deals for goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen and Anselmino very close to being completed.

A deal for Anselmino has been in the pipeline for a while and had seemingly hit a delay, but Romano has now revealed the deal is very close to completion.

He took to X.com and said:

“Aaron Anselmino, in London today to undergo medical tests and sign six year contract as Chelsea player. Deal valid until June 2030 plus option until 2031, then he will go back on loan to Boca Juniors. Anselmino will travel back to Buenos Aires this week.”

The teenager, who came through the ranks at Boca Juniors and has made 10 appearances for the first team is set to cost Chelsea around £14m.

A loan move back to Boca makes sense given right now Chelsea are blessed with a number of centre back options and there simply isn’t room for him in the squad.

When Anselmino does eventually link up with the Blues it’s likely he will be loaned to Strasbourg to continue his development and it could be a a couple of years until we see the Argentine in a Chelsea shirt.

Only time will tell if Anselmino will be a success at Chelsea or if he’s simply another player who’s been signed to then be sold on for a profit.
