La Liga outfit preparing new offer for Chelsea fan favourite

Atletico Madrid are preparing a new offer for Conor Gallagher with Chelsea wanting £40m for the midfielder according to reports.

Gallagher is currently on holiday having gone all the way to the final of Euro 2024 with England, and a decision is set to be taken on his future in the coming weeks.

The 24-year-old is now into the final year of his deal, but all options are seemingly still on the table, with the possibility of the midfielder signing a new contact not completely ruled out.

Gallagher has attracted interest from rivals Tottenham, Atletico, and Aston Villa, although Villa’s interest is likely to have cooled after they signed Amadou Onana from Everton.

The England international was one of Chelsea’s standout performers last season and captained the side for large parts of the campaign due to the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell through injury.

Gallagher has expressed his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea have been intent on selling for the last couple of years.

Atletico are believed to be the team that have expressed the most interest in the midfielder, but the finances of the deal are understood to be difficult for them.

The La Liga outfit reportedly made an initial offer of around £16m for Gallagher earlier in the summer, but Spanish outlet AS have reported they are preparing a new offer, and are aware they will have to more than double their opening offer.

Gallagher made 50 appearances in all competitions for the Blues last season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists, but it seems he isn’t part of Chelsea’s plans going forward.

The club signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester earlier this month and are big believers in youngster Andrey Santos who is set to spend next season on loan at Strasbourg.
