Former Blue names one thing that sets Chelsea star apart from other players

Former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino believes Cole Palmer’s confidence is what sets him apart from other players.

Palmer had an incredible season for both club and country following his move from Manchester City on deadline day last summer, and had a bigger impact than anyone expected.

The 22-year-old scored 22 Premier League goals and provided 11 assists which saw him named Premier League Young Player of the year.

Palmer is currently enjoying a well earned break and won’t be part of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America after going all the way to the final of Euro 2024 with England.

The former City man hadn’t even played for the Three Lions until last November but he established himself as an important member of the squad in Germany, and is seemingly set to be a big part of England’s future.

Palmer had to bide his time at the Euros having been overlooked completely for the first two games, but he got his chance in the final group game and was subsequently involved in all the remaining games.

Palmer has had a brilliant impact for both club and country.

The versatile forward made a number of key contributions on the run to the final as he scored in the penalty shootout win against Switzerland, set up Ollie Watkins’ last minute winner against the Dutch and scored the equaliser in the final.

No matter how big the occasion is Palmer doesn’t appear to be fazed by anything and Cascarino feels his confidence sets him apart from other players.

“The thing about Palmer that’s different from most players I have seen is he has got a real confidence and not in a bad way,” he told talkSPORT.

“He is so sure about what he’s doing. He has gone to Chelsea and it’s like a breeze. He has just come in, he has settled in, he has played great football from day one, he has been Chelsea’s outstanding player of the season. He has done everything.”

The task facing Palmer for the new campaign is can he replicate or get close to his exploits of last season, and it will be interesting to see how his game develops and evolves under Enzo Maresca.
