Blues confirm signing of 25-year-old who shone under Maresca last season

Chelsea have announced the signing of midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on a five year deal with the option of a further year.

Dewsbury-Hall follows Enzo Maresca in swapping the King Power for Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £30m and becomes Chelsea’s fifth summer signing.

The 25-year-old spent 17 years at Leicester, where he came through the ranks at the club’s academy, and he shone under Maresca last season scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists as the Foxes won the Championship title.

Dewsbury-Hall delighted to be at Chelsea

In his first words as a Chelsea player the midfielder said it was a privilege to be at the club and he can’t wait to show everyone what he can do.

“It is amazing to be sitting here as a Chelsea player,” he told Chelsea’s webiste.

“This is a club people grow up watching and hoping to one day play for, so it is a privilege to be here.

“I’m really excited to get going and can’t wait to show everybody what I can do.”

Dewsbury Hall signs for Chelsea.
Dewsbury-Hall has completed his move to Chelsea.

The midfielder follows in the steps of Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater in swapping Leicester for Chelsea.

Competition for places in midfielder is fierce and Dewsbury-Hall will be competing with the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Carney Chukwuemeka and Conor Gallagher if he remains at the club beyond this summer.

Reports had suggested that Chelsea see Dewsbury-Hall as a profile of midfielder they don’t have in the squad as he’s left footed and is a goalscoring threat, which in fairness other than Gallagher the Blues do lack.

Dewsbury-Hall will already have a couple of friends in the squad in Chilwell and Fofana as he was at the Leicester when they were both there and the pair will no doubt help him settle in.

He will have an opportunity to impress Maresca and his new team-mates on the pre-season tour of America later this month, and show he deserves a place in the stating line-up.
