Chelsea could sell €16m first team regular for a profit in just one year says top source

Chelsea are into the fourth window of their four window plan to reshape the squad under the new ownership, and one would think that three chaotic and busy windows so far would mean this one was just going to be composed of tinkering on the final details here and there.

No so. In fact, there are still pretty monumental and fundamental changes to be made.

One first team position which could yet be changed this summer (despite having had two players bought for it last summer) is goalkeeper. Yesterday saw links to both Mads Hermansen and Filip Jorgensen emerge, with top sources like Fabrizio Romano saying we’re seriously interested in both.

Djordje Petrovic warming up.

How Chelsea make keeper deals work

We’re fully in agreement that an upgrade in goal would be a very smart move for the club, and we like the sound of some of the players being linked. But the fact we bought both Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic a year ago makes it hard to work out how it all fits together.

The Athletic today report that Petrovic could be sold in order to create space. They point out that his solid campaign for us last year, after he took over from the injured Sanchez, means there’s a “good chance” we can make a profit on him, after buying him for €16m plus €2m in add ons next summer.

Assuming those add ons won’t be activated if we sell him this summer, we can certainly see us getting more than €16m for Petrovic, who looked very solid, just lacking the ceiling to take us to the very top level. There would be a number of clubs in the Premier League and around Europe who would consider him, and we could even loan him out somewhere to develop further before selling him, given how long is on his contract.

  1. You’re buying players without thinking about being deformed and giving them plenty number of years. Are you serious atall? That shows you guys don’t know what you want if not this kind rubbish will not happen.
