Blues still debating whether to move for an established striker this summer

There is still a debate over whether Chelsea will make a move for an established striker this summer according to The Athletic.

The Blues have made six summer signings already, and whilst teenage striker Marc Guiu has joined from Barcelona, the club are still reportedly in the market for another forward.

Chelsea are looking for a forward to compete with Nicolas Jackson who scored 14 Premier League goals in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, and have been linked with a whole host of names across Europe.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have been linked with the likes of Jhon Duran, Samu Omorodion and Jonathan David, but interest has seemingly cooled on the trio.

The Athletic report that Chelsea are debating whether to move for an established striker like Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak, Ollie Watkins or Julian Alvarez, but a deal for any of those players would be “highly complex.”

The report adds that it remains unclear if new boss Enzo Maresca is happy to work with the existing options at his disposal which includes Christopher Nkunku and Guiu.

Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea haven’t ruled out going in for Osimhen if Napoli drop their asking price, with the club reportedly not prepared to pay his salary and £113m release clause.

The club made an opportunistic enquiry to Newcastle over a move for Isak in an attempt to take advantage of difficulties the Magpies were facing with profit and sustainability rules, but nothing serious materialised.

Fans would no doubt love a big name striker to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer, but will also be wary that the Blues don’t have the best track record when it comes to signing strikers, and are still feeling the effects of a disastrous move for Romelu Lukaku back in 2021.

In any case it would appear a move for any potential new striker is unlikely to happen before the current options are thoroughly assessed in pre-season with the Blues set to take on Wrexham in their first game on July 24th.
