Chelsea fan favourite could be about to complete unlikely turnaround

CaughtOffside have dropped a very exciting Chelsea transfer piece on their site this morning.

First up it deals with our interest in a new striker – Victor Osimhen is back on the menu, it seems. They also claim our interest in Karim Adeyemi is very real.

But the most interesting part is perhaps to do with a player already on the books, as you can see from the quote here:

“Chelsea fans will no doubt hope the Osimhen deal comes to fruition, but there’s also some other exciting news as the Blues are now discussing a new contract for Conor Gallagher, who has just a year left on his current deal.

“The England international will be free to negotiate with CFC now that Euro 2024 is over, but it had previously looked doubtful that he could stay at the club amid interest from elsewhere.”

We certainly do expect things to kick into gear across the league now that the Euros are over, and securing Gallagher to a new contract would be a huge coup for Chelsea.

Gallagher talks back on the table

There’s massive disappointment at the idea of him leaving, especially if he were to join a Premier League rival. So Chelsea fans all over are desperately keen to hear that talks are underway over a new deal.

The one shred of hope we’ve had throughout the last few weeks since the season ended was Gallagher’s attitude on the final day. His attitude towards the crowd didn’t have the valedictory air of a homegrown player who knows they’re leaving the club.

Of course it doesn’t mean he will certainly stay, but it did seem to indicate that he didn’t know for sure he was leaving. And if that was still uncertain in late May, why would it suddenly have changed now?

Let’s pray these rumours are true and news of a new deal is on the way.

  1. A player who has the drive and energy of two players. A talented player who who has the scope to improve his game in every department.
A player whose speed of thought leaves him open to mistakes – one of the easiest negative traits to coach out of a player.
A player who breathes Chelsea, who knows the club inside out and knows its values.
A player who can only improve.
Why would any club want to sell him?
