Chelsea fans have convinced themselves €53.5m striker is worth the money after all

After an early flurry, things have gone rather quiet on the transfer front for Chelsea.

The search for a striker is ongoing, but the Blues are not being rushed. They’re establishing their options, finding out the prices that would be asked, and all the while working on clearing the books of players they own to create space for them.

Yesterday’s news was all about Samu Omorodion, with Ben Jacobs claiming that Chelsea have “already” made a £45m bid for the Atletico Madrid striker. That news was hardly met with overwhelming positivity. Most fans aren’t too keen on the striker at that price level.

But others are starting to talk themselves into it. Simon Phillips’ scouting report on the striker concludes that the fee being asked is “just absurd” and that Chelsea wouldn’t be “that daft”, but he has to concede that we “can’t ignore all the noise” which only seems to be building around the forward.

When top reporters like Phillips, Jacobs and Fabrizio Romano are all hearing the same thing, it usually means it’s time to pay attention.

What the fans feel

A glace at the comments below Phillips’ piece shows that fans are already telling themselves that it wouldn’t be such a bad move. While some agree that an experienced forward should be the order of the day, others are using the benchmark of our offers for Jhon Duran (a player with a similar level of experience to Omorodion) to claim that £45m wouldn’t be that crazy after all.

In the end, it’s simply a matter of how good he is. That’s cheap for an elite striker and expensive for an average one. It comes down more to assessing his potential and then deciding how much he’s worth than just figuring out how much you want to pay.

  1. I think Marc guiu is good enough to compete against Jackson and NKunKu . But if they’re looking for another forward conciceaou of Porto .

    1. Spot on with Guiu. The Spain right winger Yamal (?) was 16 last week. My instincts tell me this guy WILL be at least as good. Trust him I say.
