Caughtoffside have just dropped an update on the Aaron Anselmino deal which indicates it’s still in the pipeline.
The young Argentine defender has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in the past weeks, with the Blues apparently close to finishing up a £14m loan which would then see the defender loaned back to his current team Boca Juniors. It had been expected this loan would be for a year – i.e. until this time next year when he is a little older and ready for a move to European football. But this piece claims that the arrangement may be just until December, when the Argentine season ends.
Either way, the highly rated 19 year old “will sign a 6 year contract” with Chelsea according to the report.
All calm despite worrying silence
The delays are probably nothing to worry about. We heard last week from sources in Argentina that the defender was travelling to the UK on Tuesday for a medical, and would then return to South America to continue his season with Boca.
We never saw any evidence of that trip being made – but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, or that it may yet happen in the days to come. While there was immense competition for the defender’s signature, the sheer weight of rumours on our side really seemed to indicate we had won the race to sign him, even if that process is now dragging on a little bit.
Until we see something really shocking, we won’t get too worried that this one isn’t happening. There certainly is a lot going on at the club at the moment, and we expect that this move is close enough to completion that there are no real fears that it could fall through now.
