Chelsea in no rush to sign replacement if 24-year-old leaves this summer

The Athletic have reported that Chelsea don’t feel an urgent need to sign another midfielder if Conor Gallagher leaves the club this summer.

The Blues have a plethora of options in the middle of the park and have further added to those with the £30m signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester, whilst the return to fitness of Romeo Lavia will almost feel like a new signing given he missed virtually the whole of last season.

Gallagher is currently with the England squad preparing for Wednesday’s Euro 2024 against the Netherlands, and no decision on his future will be taken until after the tournament.

Chelsea not desperate to sign another midfielder if Gallagher leaves

Gallagher was brilliant for the Blues last season and was one of the club’s standout performers along with Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto.

However, it’s clear that Chelsea have wanted to sell the England international for a while, and he now has just one year left on his contract, with no sign of any serious talks over a new deal.

All options appear to be on the table for Gallagher who is attracting interest from Tottenham, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid.

The Blues will be wary of potentially losing the 24-year-old on a free and offering him a new deal hasn’t been completely ruled out.

The Athletic report that if Gallagher were to leave then Chelsea wouldn’t be in a rush to bring in another midfielder to replace him.

It can be argued that Dewsbury-Hall is already the Gallagher replacement, and the club already have Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Lavia on the books.

Talented youngster Andrey Santos is also waiting in the wings for an opportunity, whilst Palmer could be deployed in a deeper role, so it would be completely unnecessary to bring yet another midfielder in if Gallagher departs.
