Chelsea still have chance to sign superstar after latest Fabrizio Romano update

If Chelsea really want to, then they still have a chance of landing one superstar new signing this summer after the latest update from Fabrizio Romano last night.

Chelsea have been linked with many names this summer but so far they have only signed unproven players, although Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall doesn’t quite fit under that remit. But most of them are young players who have not really played at the very top yet, and present risks.

Sources: Frank Lampard’s involvement in new England manager pursuit, plus three other former Chelsea managers in for it!

A new signing that wouldn’t really present much of a risk and is way more established right now is Nico Williams from Atletico Bilbao. He’s just come off the back of a great Euros and was a key player for winners of the competition, Spain.

He’s also just had a very good season playing in La Liga. But many Chelsea fans see any pursuit of Williams now as a dream, despite The Athletic’s latest report that gave them some hope recently.

Chelsea would “love” to sign Nico Williams this summer and feel “well placed” in the race for the Spain international according to The Athletic just a few days back now.

Barcelona pushing ahead with a move for Williams

If Chelsea want him though, they will have to battle Spanish giants Barcelona to try and sign him.

But as you can also see from the above updates from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there is still a bit of hope for Chelsea, as he mentions Barca are trying to get this done quick before English clubs enter the equation. And you’d suspect that one of those English clubs could be Chelsea.

However, in all honesty, I see any move by Chelsea for Williams as hugely slim and very unlikely at this point. We’ve consistently heard about how the financials are too high for Chelsea to enter this race, and unless that changes, then Chelsea wont be landing Williams unfortunately.
