Euro 2024 star excited for Chelsea’s future under Enzo Maresca

Marc Cucurella has admitted Chelsea’s future under Enzo Maresca looks exciting and that he’s been in contact with the Italian whilst at Euro 2024.

Chelsea players returned to pre-season training on Monday, but Cucurella is still on international duty and preparing for arguably the biggest game of his career.

The 25-year-old will face off against England in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final, and he’s taken his end of season form onto the international stage where he’s been a key player for Spain and a standout performer at the tournament.

Cucurella could come up against team-mates Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher on Sunday, and whatever happens Chelsea will have a European Champion in their squad next season.

The Spain international has had a remarkable upturn in fortunes after being booed at times by Chelsea fans in his first season at the club.

The former Brighton man performed better last season, and really came into his own following a tactical switch towards the end of the last campaign which saw him invert into midfield when the Blues were in possession.

Cucurella could be set for key role under Maresca next season.

Cucurella hasn’t looked back and is now getting the plaudits he deserves and is showing everyone why Chelsea paid the money they did for the Spaniard.

The left back is set for a key role under Maresca next season, given he can invert into midfield and play on the left side of a back three, and he’s revealed he’s excited for the future under the 44-year-old and that he’s been in contact with his new manager.

“Yes, he texted me a couple of days ago,” he told The Athletic.

“The feelings were good, it all looked exciting, so I am looking forward to it.

“Some people from Chelsea reached me too during the Euros. I’ve sensed that our team-mates are very happy too.

“We have a similar group of players to last season and football relies heavily on relationships with everyone, team-mates, managers, if you have a team-mate you really get along with and you know each other, it has an impact on the pitch.”

Cucurella could find himself as Chelsea’s first choice left back next season which would be quite some turn around given how his Chelsea career started.
