€20m winger set for Ligue 1 move – Chelsea must act now if they want him

Earlier this summer, there was quite a lot of talk that Chelsea were interested in Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville.

His name was mentioned way back in May, with top insiders like Fabrizio Romano saying that we were in the mix for the winger. Since then things have gone very quiet, although briefings have remained very clear that we want a right wing player this summer.

With the Euros now over however, things are starting to move quickly. Highly rated winger Desire Doue could be on the move, and his club Rennes are now apparently targeting Summerville as a potential replacement. Sebasien Denis of FootMercato says PSG, Chelsea and several other players are all interested in the Leeds man, who is price around €20m after a superb season in the Championship.

The Whites need to sell some stars to balance the books after failing to return to the top flight at the first time of asking, and Summerville is the obvious option.

Decision time closes in

We always considered Summerville as a lower tier option, a backup to the Michael Olises of this world. Time is ticking by however, and preseason is underway. Players are moving while we stand still, for now. Eventually you have to make decisions about things like this. He won’t sit out there forever, and even if he’d rather join us than Rennes, eventually he will make the move there if we don’t get into gear.

As it stands, it feels like we’re happy to let this one go through. But if we really do feel we need another right winger, we really don’t want to be left empty handed come September. If we miss out on both Doue and Summerville through indecisiveness and leave the squad short in one area, that would be a pity.

  1. 20 million euro’s. Which leg is that for? Leeds have put a £40 million price tag on him and won’t be forced into selling for anything less.
