€45m winger could be the budget option of Chelsea’s dreams after double transfer fail

Chelsea’s attempts to sign a right winger have been a notable feature of this summer so far.

The Blues pushed hard for Michael Olise, and really seemed to be making headway, before hitting a brick wall financially and being forced to concede to Bayern Munich, who are now getting that deal wrapped up.

Another name suggested has been Nico Williams, the Athletic Bilbao winger. But if he wasn’t unrealistic before the Euros, he certainly is now. His unbelievable form for Spain is putting him without question in the frame for player of the tournament, and also pushing him further and further beyond Chelsea’s reach this summer.

As the club look further and further down their shortlist, it seems they’ve come across another interesting name: Johan Bakayoko. We’ve heard the Belgian linked with a few Premier League teams this summer, but the Blues haven’t generally been among them.

Another name on the list

Now that’s all changed, with an exclusive report from Bobby Vincent at Football London.

He says that Chelsea “hold a keen interest” in the 21 year old, who broke into the first team following the departure of… Noni Madueke to Chelsea in January 2022.

Transfermarkt value the winger at €45m, and we can see him easily fetching a whole lot more than that given his impressive form this season, and the fact he’s now become a regular for Belgium at this summer’s Euros.

As Vincent points out, it would be a strange situation for Madueke, who would feel like he was being replaced by the man who stepped in to his shoes at PSV. The Olise links were always followed by insistence that Madueke wasn’t going anywhere – but let’s face it, if he’d truly convinced in his first 18 months at Chelsea, there wouldn’t be such major chatter about bringing in competition.
