Enzo Fernandez responds after racism controversy hits Chelsea dressing room

Chelsea’s squad is barely half back for preseason, with a host of players still off on international duty or the holidays to follow, yet there’s already a dreadful situation developing.

A video of Enzo Fernandez and some of his Argentina teammates signing a racist song pointing out the African ancestry of French players on the bus following their Copa America win over Colombia on Monday morning (taken from the midfielder’s own Instagram Live) went viral yesterday, and it didn’t take long before a Frenchman of African descent (one of several in the Chelsea dressing room) took offence to it.

Wesley Fofana Tweeted the following yesterday evening:

This is of course the last thing that new manager Enzo Fernandez wants to deal with. He’s barely into his second week on the job and there’s already a firestorm potentially tearing his dressing room apart.

Thank goodness for the immediate response from Fernandez, which was just about the only thing that could slightly mitigate this catastrophe.

  1. Enzo will need to do A LOT more than just apologise on line. It’s bad enough and he and his teammates were singing this racist song, but his lack of judgement in posting online just magnifies how completely clueless he is! Really shameful stuff.

  2. It’s so sad that at this era people are yet to understand the diversity of the world. It’s about time Africans must be respected and they should try doing something by themselves to earn this respects
