Gary Cahill says expectations at Chelsea should not change under new owners

Gary Cahill is a Chelsea legend in my eyes and in my opinion, just for his heroic part in Chelsea winning the Champions League in 2012 – he was part of our miracle.

I actually also always thought Cahill was a very good defender and a top player for Chelsea during his time at the club. He’s also a decent human being and still a big Chelsea fan.

Sources: Frank Lampard’s involvement in new England manager pursuit, plus three other former Chelsea managers in for it!

So it is for that reason why I will always listen to what Cahill has to say about our club and really enjoy hearing his views and seeing his opinions.

Cahill has been speaking about current Chelsea under the new owners and the squad build that is going on, and he has provided a very intelligent and balanced view on it all in my opinion.

Cahill says expectations should not change

Chelsea have had a rough couple of seasons since the new owners came in to the club. They’ve been poor overall, despite a late surge last season to finish in a more respectable position in the end. For Chelsea Football Club though, they have been poor, and it’s all felt very turmoil and toxic. Many fans are still hugely doubting this squad build and whether Chelsea will get back to where they want to be again, which is challenging at the very top.

Cahill sounds a bit more positive, but says Chelsea need to win trophies.

“Everything that’s involved in the settlement of a new squad like that and young players takes a little bit of time,” Cahill told The Charlotte Observer.

“There’s certainly the ability in the squad, and just for me as a Chelsea fan now, (it’s about) just watching it grow and almost trying to nurture that.”

“It’s difficult because Chelsea comes with an expectation of winning things and competing season after season after season, nor should that change.

“These players are slowly learning that… The first time that this young group wins something, it will almost catapult (them) to that next level.”
