“Much better if he stays on the bench” – Chelsea’s Euro star desperate to not face top attacker

There are three Chelsea players left in the Euros, set to face off tomorrow in the final.

Conor Gallagher is the least likely to appear, apart from maybe a brief cameo towards the end. Certain to appear are Marc Cucurella, who has been Spain’s left back through the whole tournament and really impressed, and Cole Palmer, who has been England’s secret weapon off the bench.

He made the crucial assist to get England through their semi final, and today Cucurella has been speaking about their potential battle down his flank in the latter stages tomorrow.

“I spoke with Cole Palmer, but it was over a week ago. We talked for a while in the previous rounds [of the Euros],” the Spaniard joked.

For me, it’s much better if he doesn’t play and stays on the bench [for England].”

It’s a vain hope from the former Brighton player really. While Gareth Southgate has a very fixed starting lineup, he’s quickly come to appreciate Palmer’s talents off the bench as a game changer.

The odd couple set to refresh amusing double act

It’s a funny line from Cucurella, and the exact sort of thing we’ve come to expect from a really charming character like Marc. The two of them already had a quite famous viral video together where Palmer can’t get his head around the AM – PM distinction and Cucurella gets the giggles.

They’re quite the odd couple really – the much maligned frantic full back and the ice cold final third killer. But all great comedy duos are made up of two very different types, and this pair have great potential. Their battle tomorrow could potentially prove decisive too – we expect a tight game, and once again it’s quite likely it comes down to Palmer to make the difference for his team once again.
