Serie A side optimistic they can sign unwanted Chelsea star for less than exit clause

Napoli believe an agreement can be reached with Chelsea to sign Romelu Lukaku for around £22m according to reports, which is significantly less than his £38m exit clause.

The Blues have been active in the transfer market and have made six summer signings already with Renato Veiga the latest new face through the door after completing his move to Stamford Bridge last week.

Chelsea also want to offload a number of players this summer and having already sold Ian Maatsen and Omari Hutchinson, they are desperate to move on the likes of Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Napoli feel they can sign Lukaku for £22m

A lot of excitement surrounded Lukaku’s return to Stamford Bridge in 2021, with many believing the Belgian was the missing piece of the jigsaw for Chelsea.

After a positive start, things turned sour very quickly following the infamous interview and Lukaku has spent the last two seasons back on loan in Italy at Inter Milan and Roma.

Chelsea are desperate to offload Lukaku this summer.

The Blues are looking to offload Lukaku on a permanent basis this summer, and before he left to join Roma on loan they inserted a £38m exit clause into his contract, which the club expect to be paid in full.

Lukaku is attracting interest from Napoli and clubs from the Saudi Pro League, and his preference is believed to be a reunion with Antonio Conte in Naples.

Any move from Napoli for Lukaku will likely depend on the departure of Victor Osimhen, and the club have yet to receive any offers for the Nigerian.

Gazetta Dello Sport have reported that Napoli believe they can reach an agreement with Chelsea worth around £22m for the Belgium international, and Lukaku is prepared to further reduce his salary in order to complete a move.

As of yet no offers have come in for the 31-year-old who still has two years left on his Chelsea contract, but now the Euros are done, a decision over Lukaku’s future is likely to be reached in the coming weeks.
