“Needs to have a pair” – Chelsea man explains what Enzo Maresca wants from his GK

An interesting interview has come out explaining exactly what Enzo Maresca is looking for from his Chelsea goalkeeper this season.

There’s a lot of talk about potential new goalkeepers coming in and whether the likes of Robert Sanchez or Djordje Petrovic are going to get the chance to play or be number one.

Sources: Nico Williams to Chelsea still on! 👀

Many Chelsea fans believe the club need to sign a new number one stopper anyway, and that neither Sanchez or Petrovic are quite good enough for now.

This morning there has even been reports suggesting that Chelsea have made an offer to sign Villareal goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen.

So a penny for the thoughts of Robert Sanchez, who came in last season and started as the number one keeper for Chelsea and kept that spot until he got a bad injury, subsequently losing it then to Petrovic.

Sanchez feels confident

Sanchez says he has spoken to Maresca and it sounds like he is confident that he can bring exactly what Maresca wants from his goalkeeper.

So what is that?

“I know what I can bring to the team. I am positive,” Sanchez said.

“It’s a totally different [style]. The goalkeeper here needs to ‘have a pair’ and show a bit of personality. I think I am the right guy for that. Right now, I’m feeling really confident in training. It’s looking good.

“[It’s about] just being a bit different to what a normal goalkeeper is like, you need to have a bit of arrogance, hold the ball, show a bit, and like I said ‘have a pair’ and show a bit of quality.”

The quotes came from Ben Jacobs today, who interviewed Sanchez whilst on Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America this week.

So Sanchez will need to ‘have a pair’ and let’s hope that if Jorgensen does come in, he’s ‘got a pair’ as well!
