“It’s about being dangerous” – Chelsea ace speaks on where he operates best

Christopher Nkunku has admitted he doesn’t feel like he has a favourite position, but prefers being involved in the centre of the game rather than down one side.

The Blues are currently on their pre-season tour of America and drew their first game against Wrexham on Wednesday evening, with Nkunku getting himself on the scoresheet.

The France international is set for a key role under Enzo Maresca and will be hoping the injury issues he suffered last season are firmly behind him.

Nkunku doesn’t have a favourite position

Nkunku arrived from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig last summer for a fee of £52m and got Chelsea fans excited by his performances in pre-season.

However, things took a turn for the worse as he picked up a knee injury in the final game against Borussia Dortmund, which would rule him out for four months.

Nkunku had to wait until December to make his Chelsea debut, and he scored in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Christmas Eve.

The France international was plagued by further injury issues in the new year and was limited to just 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

The 26-year-old will likely be key to any success the Blues have next season and he’s known for his versatility across the front line.

However, the Frenchman exclusively told Chelsea’s official app that he doesn’t feel like he has a favourite position on the pitch.

“I don’t feel like I have a favourite position because if I play striker, I like to move, I like to play, and I like to fill the space.

“It’s about being dangerous. I prefer being involved in the centre of the game instead of being down one side. I try to participate in every situation for the team.”

Nkunku started against Wrexham in one of the advanced number eight positions and Maresca has admitted he can play anywhere.

If Chelsea decide against signing another striker it’s likely Nkunku will feature regularly as a number nine next season, but most importantly fans will just be delighted to see him fully fit and in action.
