“The new head coach brings very good ideas to play” – Chelsea ace praises new boss

Christopher Nkunku believes Chelsea will play good football this coming season if everyone gets on board with Enzo Maresca’s ideas.

The Blues head off on their pre-season tour of America on Monday having had two weeks of training at the club’s Cobham base.

Chelsea have two friendlies this week against Wrexham and Celtic, before further games against Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Nkunku will be part of the travelling party and will be hoping to put his injury issues of the last campaign behind him and make an impression on the tour.

The Frenchman made a good impression in pre-season last year following his £53m move from German side RB Leipzig last summer, however he picked up a knee injury against Borussia Dortmund which ruled him out for four months.

The 26-year-old would have to wait until last December to make his debut for the club as he scored in the Christmas Eve defeat to Wolves, and he would only make 14 appearances in all competitions during his debut campaign.

Nkunku has taken full part in pre-season training so far and will no doubt be a key player for the Blues and Maresca this coming season.

The France international has been speaking about his new boss and said he brings good ideas and the players enjoy working under him.

“The new head coach brings very good ideas to play,” Nkunku told Chelsea’s website.

“We are all happy to practice every training with him. Now it is just the beginning. We need to learn and to fix in every training the way he wants us to play.

“We are on this way to learn. If everybody has the idea of the coach to play, we will produce good football this year.’

“We are playing with the ball already a lot. As he told us the first day, he wants us to be on the pitch to practice football training directly. His idea is to keep the ball, so we are practicing that now.”

Nkunku could find himself playing as a number nine next season with Chelsea expected to assess him in that role during the tour along with Marc Guiu before deciding if they need to enter the market for a new striker.
