OFFICIAL: Rising English coach appointed to Chelsea affiliate

Following some intense reports from the likes of Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s affiliate club RC Strasbourg have just announced they’ve appointed Liam Rosenior as their new manager on a three year contract.

The former Hull coach was sacked at the end of last season after failing to get the Tigers promoted, but is highly regarded in English coaching circles. He replaces Patrick Vieira, who departed in surprise fashion earlier this summer after an agreement of “mutual consent” with the club which left the worrying feeling he was jumping ship because he believed that the moves made since his arrival a year ago were completely focused on buying young players to make a profit on, rather than aiming for success.

The club’s announcement added that Rosenior would be helped by staff members Justin Walker, Kalifa Cissé and Issame Charaï.

“I am happy to join Racing, a historic French club, with supporters renowned for their passion and loyalty,” the new manager said.

“I will do everything to make the Meinau proud of its team and its players. I can’t wait to get to work.”

A rising coaching talent feels a good get for Strasbourg

We were gutted to see Vieira leave, and were worried about what the signalled about the situation at Strasbourg. But Rosenior is a really interesting option and seems to have great potential as a coach, so we can’t deny we’re excited to see what he can do with a talented group of players helped by the backing of Chelsea.

Vieira did great work with loanees like Angelo Gabriel and Andrey Santos last season – let’s hope that Rosenior can continue that legacy as well as getting the Alsatians playing some good football and steering them clear of another relegation battle. His lack of French is going to be an issue – but we’re sure he’s working on that already.
