English duo ruled out as Chelsea continue search to fill problem position

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Burnley’s James Trafford have been ruled out as targets as Chelsea search for a new goalkeeper according to The Athletic.

It’s been a busy summer so far with six new faces coming through the door at Stamford Bridge, but the club still want to do more business.

The Blues are currently in America on their pre-season tour and have their first two friendlies this week against Wrexham on Wednesday and Celtic on Saturday.

Ramsdale and Trafford ruled out

Chelsea are looking to make two or three more signings this summer with a goalkeeper one of the positions they are looking to fill.

Robert Sanchez will reportedly start the season as the number one, but doubts have now emerged over Djordje Petrovic who isn’t on the tour of America due to a small injury and could leave just a year after arriving.

The Blues haven’t wasted time in their search and made an initial approach for Villareal’s Filip Jorgensen on Monday, with the 22-year-old believed to have a £35m release clause in his contract.

Fabrizio Romano has stated the club have four names on their list, and there’s an appreciation for Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen, whilst the identity of the other two names is unclear.

The Athletic have reported that Ramsdale and Trafford aren’t among the targets under consideration at Stamford Bridge, with both goalkeepers facing uncertain futures at Arsenal and Burnley respectively.

Trafford had been previously linked with a move to Chelsea earlier in the summer, but a move to the Blues has seemingly now been ruled out.

Ideally Chelsea will want to have a new goalkeeper signed before the end of the month if possible so they have a chance to be part of the pre-season tour, have time to settle in and get used to their new surroundings and Enzo Maresca’s way of working.
