Romano exclusive says Chelsea in “final stages” of transfer above €20m which could be completed this weekend

Things are moving quickly with regards to Chelsea’s links with Villareal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

His name only bubbled up a few days ago, and yet today we’ve already reached the point where Fabrizio Romano is saying we’ve reached the “final stages” of agreeing a deal with Villareal for the goalie.

The fee isn’t clear yet – but Romano says our initial bid was €20m and the new offer has “improved on that.” Jorgensen only just agreed a new contract with Villareal a month ago, meaning they have all the power in negotiations, but given he’s only had one season as their number one, they can’t command too massive a figure.

Personal terms with the Dane are already sorted, so this move could be completed in a matter of days, with the 22 year old then potentially able to head straight out to the USA to join up with our tour and get stuck in to meeting his new teammates.

A confusion situation shows no signs of clearing up

This will be the fourth goalkeeper signed to a long contract in the last 2 years. While we respect the sporting directors ability to put the team over their own pride and admit their mistakes… we just wish they wouldn’t make as many mistakes.

The reports from Spain yesterday were that our interest in a player plus cash swap which rids us of Kepa Arrizabalaga and brings in Andriy Lunin held that that move would happen regardless of this one – but we simply can’t see it happening, unless something truly crazy like us signing Lunin only to then loan him out was to take place.

The sale of last summer’s arrival (and last season’s first choice keeper) Djordje Petrovic is talked about as though it will happen, although we’ve heard little about any really concrete interest.
