“Spent so much money” – Wrexham boss aims dig at Chelsea after going ‘toe-to-toe’

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson aimed a little dig at Chelsea’s transfer operations after his side drew 2-2 with The Blues in America over night.

Both sides are out in the USA on a pre-season tour, and just like last summer, the pair faced off against each other in a friendly game.

Last year Chelsea won 5-0, but this year it was not so easy for the Premier League side. Wrexham have been promoted to League One this season but were only in the National League just two seasons ago. So for them to get a result against Chelsea no matter what the circumstances are is a great result for them.

Parkinson believes his side went toe-to-toe with Chelsea and to be honest he isn’t wrong there. Chelsea were actually lucky to get a draw in the end after a late equaliser from Lesley Ugochukwu.

Parkinson hones in on the money spent by Chelsea

“You have to put it into context, they spent so much money on that team and we were in the National League two years ago and we went toe-to-toe and could have won the game,” Parkinson commented post-match as cited by The Daily Mirror.

Todd Boehly, who also co-owns the Los Angeles Dodgers, took over from Abramovich and has now spent over £1.1 billion on transfer fees without anything to show for it. Chelsea has already racked up an £80million bill this summer on six new signings, all under a new head coach, as per the Mirror.
