The two most likely destinations for Kepa this summer according to Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano’s latest report on Chelsea is all about a sale we’ve been expecting for more than half a decade now.

The Italian insider wrote on Twitter that “Kepa will leave Chelsea this summer,” adding that there are “no changes or doubts on the plan.”

The two possible destinations are Saudi Arabia, where at least one team is keen, and Real Madrid, who had the Spaniard on loan last season as cover for Thibaut Courtois.

“Al Ittihad consider Kepa as option as they did before president resignation, Real Madrid return could be only be possible if Lunin leaves,” Romano added.

Kepa had actually lost his place as Courtois’ backup to Andriy Lunin by the end of last season, but the Ukraine international looks like he could leave this summer, creating the chance for an unlikely return to the Bernabeu for Kepa.

A long awaited move finally set to happen

This is no surprise – Chelsea have been trying to sell Kepa for years, it’s just been a question of getting his “book value” low enough that we can move him on without taking a major loss.

The fact that the Spaniard is now closing in on the end of his contract makes that much more feasible now, Romano is so confident in his prediction that we assume Chelsea must be too. Their asking price will now be low enough that teams are going to finally bite.

The mention of interest from Saudi Arabia is notable – there has been far less money spent from that region this year, but the relaxation on the rules for goalkeepers means that there could yet be a bid for Kepa.

Chelsea’s main concern is getting him off the wage bill and away from the training ground, where his awkward situation is only going to bring negative energy.
