Surprise goalscorer shares what he’s been working on after scoring first Chelsea goal

Lesley Ugochukwu revealed he’s been working on the attacking side of his game after he scored his first goal for Chelsea against Wrexham.

The Blues drew 2-2 in their opening friendly with the Frenchman scoring a late equaliser eight minutes from time, whilst Christopher Nkunku was also on the scoresheet.

Ugochukwu was recalled from international duty where he was on the reserve list for the French Olympic squad, and impressed in his 45 minutes of action.

The 20-year-old played the second half against the Welsh side and was named Man of the Match for his performance.

Ugochukwu, who made 15 appearances for the Blues last season isn’t exactly known for the attacking side of his game, but admitted after the match it’s something he’s been practicing.

“I tried to put it in, I would say I am practising it as much as I can,” he told Chelsea’s website.

Chelsea drew their first pre-season game 2-2 with Wrexham.

“It’s not every time that people see me in that situation but when I got there I tried to keep calm.”

Ugochukwu revealed that he had been instructed by Enzo Maresca when he came on to go forward with the ball, and he certainly appeared to do just that.

“To be calm with the ball, try to go forward and trust the process,” he added.

“Not rush it and I try to do what I was asked to do at half-time, and I did my best.”

The Frenchman also opened up on what the first few weeks of pre-season have been like and said the squad are still learning how Maresca wants to them play.

“It was our first game, we just started two weeks ago,” he added.

“We work and improve game by game and that is what we want to do.

“He came with very good ideas, so we are still learning about how he wants us to play and everyone is putting in the effort to do what he wants us to do, and that is what we tried.”

Ugochukwu is expected to be one of the players that leaves Chelsea on loan with the Blues reportedly wanting to send him to another Premier League club to gain experience, but if he continues to impress he could change their minds.
