(Video): Reece James and Enzo Maresca speak on “really difficult situation” at Chelsea

Both new head coach Enzo Maresca and club captain Reece James have been asked to speak on one situation that has really rocked the Chelsea boat this last week.

They both faced the media in the first press conference of the new season in the early hours of this morning and obviously they were going to be asked about the Enzo Fernandez racism incident. In fact, it was even the very first question for Maresca.

Sources: Nico Williams to Chelsea still on! 👀

James rather coy on it all

Maresca played it down a little but gave professional responses, yet James was much more coy and you can sense some real annoyance there.

“It’s obviously a really difficult situation,” James said. “Enzo acknowledged he did wrong and quickly put his hands up to the club, team and people he offended.

“He hasn’t arrived yet so I don’t know if there is anything to amend. I will make that judgement when he comes in.”

“It’s great that the player did the statement to apologise,” Maresca said. “The club did the same. There is not something to add to the situation. It’s clear and clarified.

“I don’t think so to be honest [difficulties when Enzo comes back]. At the end, they are all human beings. There is no bad intention from any one of them. I don’t think when Enzo is back, we will have any problems. The player and club clarified the situation.”
