What striker’s AC Milan move means for Chelsea’s €45m interest in his teammate

Alvaro Morata – we don’t know how he does it.

Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid… and now AC Milan. Fresh from captaining Spain to a Euros win, the striker is now heading back to Serie A, according to Fabrizio Romano. The insider says a €13m deal is already done.

It’s quite incredible really – a striker who somehow has it all, yet lacks some of the basic elements of being a forward – the confidence and ice in the veins one needs in front of goal.

He will look back on a career where he’s been at all manner of top clubs, and his talent was never in doubt. Yet in the end, none of them have really been too sad to see him go. He’s somehow disappointed his way up the ladder and around Europe’s top clubs.

What Morata’s latest impressive move means for Chelsea

What’s this got to do with Chelsea? Apart from being a former Chelsea player, Morata has a strong connection with our activity this summer.

His departure from Atletico, along with that of his fellow striker Memphis Depay who has left on a free transfer, leaves the Spanish side desperately short up front.

Almost certainly, their plan is to promote youth striker Samu Omorodion, who is back with them after a year developing on loan with Alaves. He’s been a target for Chelsea all summer, with recent reports claiming we’d actually already bid €45m for him.

It’s no wonder that Atletico are setting such a high price for him if he’s actually going to be one of their main options up front for the season to come. It shows that our scouting team are doing their job right at least, but Chelsea are going to have to start looking elsewhere if they still want another forward.
