Why Chelsea player has turned down approaches from clubs this summer

Chelsea fans are still holding out hope that one of their favourites could yet stay put at the club, but it’s not looking too likely now.

Trevoh Chalobah has been doubted time and time again, and has proven his doubters wrong time and time again. Yet because he’s home grown the sporting directors are eternally keen to shift him it seems. Simon Phillips’ latest update on his Substack shows that despite not much intense speculation at the moment, the plan is still to sell the 25 year old.

He’s still got a contract until 2028, so he can happily sit tight if he feels like he wants to. That’s effectively what happened last summer, when Nottingham Forest had a bid accepted but Chalobah decided he didn’t want to go.

That looks to be exactly what’s going on right now:

“SPTC sources understand that Chalobah has received approaches from a handful of clubs already this summer, but he has either turned approaches down, or he has stalled on them” Phillips wrote.

“And this is because he either hasn’t been interested in said club, and/or he doesn’t even want to leave Chelsea.”

Chalobah in an increasingly awkward situation

We really hope that things don’t get too awkward between our boy Trevoh and the club. If they really desperately want to shift him they may try to force him out, and we’d hate for things to sour between Chalobah and the club given he’s been here since 2007 and is a fan favourite.

Really what needs to happen to keep everyone happy is for him to get a really good offer from a team he’s keen to go to. He’s frankly underappreciated at Chelsea and has been year after year. As much as we’d love to see him stay, we also would be happy to go and see him thrive at a Champions League team and show the sporting directors what they miss out on.
