£28.5m winger can’t get in Chelsea’s second despite strong preseason as Mudryk preferred

Chelsea’s team for tonight’s game against Servette is out, and as expected there are a host of changes.

In fact, only two players are left who started Sunday’s defeat to Man City, and there are 9 changes. But despite changing almost the entire team, one man remains in the cold – Noni Madueke.

Of course we all know the story with Ben Chilwell, Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah and the various others in the “bomb squad” being forced to train separately as the club looks to push them towards the exit. But Madueke had been an important player in preseason, and seemed to be in manager Enzo Maresca’s good books.

With Sterling out in the cold and new signing Joao Felix not yet ready to play, a heavily rotated team was Madueke’s chance to shine. Yet he’s stuck on the bench, just as he was on Sunday.

Red flags all over for Madueke

As it stands, we’re seeing no signs that the former PSV winger is being forced out like some of his colleagues. But he will surely be starting to worry already about his future here. He couldn’t have done much more than he did in preseason, scoring goals and playing regularly on the right wing, seeming to make the position his own, at least in the absence of Cole Palmer.

But it looks like the versatility of Pedro Neto, able to play on both wings, is going to end up hurting Madueke more than anyone. He performed far above Mykhailo Mudryk’s level on the USA tour, yet the Ukraine winger gets the nod before him, with Neto switched to the right.

The season is long and there will be many twists and turns to come – but this is the worst possible start for Madueke who would have hoped this was his chance to break out.

  1. GOT RID OF ONE CARTHORSE, NOW GOT ANOTHER TO REPLACE HIM. Ben -BAD IS THE LATEST DONKEY AT THE BACK. —- MOST OF THE CRAP PLAYERS IN THE WORLD, COACH WHO HAS NO IDEA OF A BALANCED SIDE, AND BRAINLESS YANKS YANKS WITH TOO MUCH MONEY, AND CLUELESS. —-OH YES, THE FUTURE LOOKS GREAT, ALL THE FANS CAN DO IS BOOOO,
WAKE UP YOU LOT, AND SAVE YOUR MONEY !!!!!!!

    1. Sure, blame it on “the Yanks,” lol!

The whining and moaning (and booing) helps no one, least of all the players. And the “crap players” remark together with the criticism of the manager who’s had barely two months to work with this group is as lazy as it is unfair.

I happen to be a “Yank” who’s supported the club for going on 25 years and it’s laughable how over the top some fans are with their rushes to judgment and their scapegoating. And it’s not like it’s well-founded, cerebral criticism! It’s spleen venting pure and simple. Take Maresca, for example. It’s patently ridiculous to expect any new manager to have a squad that’s full of new players (and players who’ve been out to long-term injury) to implement a new system flawlessly from the get go. Does anyone remember how City struggled in Pep’s first year? Or how Arsenal sputtered at times in Arteta’s debut season? Why, under a similar system, would Chelsea be any different with Maresca?

Yet the supporters act like spoiled children and show little grasp of what it means to install a new style of football. They expect immediate results (chafing at a 2-0 victory?!) and ball their fists and stamp their feet if they don’t get it. What happened to the “support” in “supporter?”

  2. Maresca don’t let Noni Madueke to go elsewhere he is really a good player. So let me tell try to balance the team and you will goods of this man
