“Very happy and grateful to Enzo” – Incoming new signing speaks of admiration for current star

Aaron Anselmino has revealed he’s very happy and grateful to Enzo Fernandez and that he admires the midfielder a lot.

Anselmino was in London this week to undergo his medical and sign his Chelsea contract, but has now returned to Argentina where he will remain with Boca Juniors until at least January.

The 19-year-old hasn’t officially been announced by the club, but he will become Chelsea’s sixth signing from South America and follows in the footsteps of Kendry Paez, Estevao Willian, Andrey Santos, Deivid Washington and Angelo Gabriel.

Chelsea are set to pay Boca Juniors a total package worth in excess of $20m for the defender who has come through the ranks at the Argentine club.

The teenager has made 10 appearances for the first team, and his arrival continues Chelsea’s aggressive policy of signing the best young talents from around the world.

Upon arriving back in Argentina Anselmino spoke to local reporters and revealed he was very grateful to his countryman Fernandez and hoped to meet him soon.

“I saw the property, the stadium, the truth is that it was very nice, I liked it a lot. Very happy & grateful to Enzo. I told him that I admired him a lot, thank you and I hope I can meet him soon.”

Quite what Chelsea’s long term plan for Anselmino is remains to be seen given the amount of options they have at centre back.

It would seemingly make sense to spend at least a year on loan in Europe playing regular football to help continue his development, with sister club Strasbourg an obvious option.

It will be interesting to see how Anselmino develops over the next year to 18 months and how good he actually is, but it would seem unlikely we will see him in a Chelsea shirt anytime soon.
