Chelsea accused of disrespect as fallout from collapsed €40m transfer turns nasty

Atletico Madrid feel Chelsea have shown them a lack of respect following the collapse of Samu Omorodion’s move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues had agreed a deal worth £34.5m with Atletico for the Spain under-21 international and everything was was in place on the player side.

Omorodion had been in London over the weekend to complete the deal, but on Sunday evening it was reported that the transfer had fallen through due to a major issue in finalising the contract and the striker has subsequently returned to Madrid.

Atletico feel disrespected by Chelsea as Omorodion deal collapses

The collapse of the deal has potentially huge implications on Atletico’s move for Conor Gallagher, with the midfielder currently in Spain waiting for his move to the Spanish capital to be finalised.

Spanish outlet Relevo have reported that Chelsea used Omorodion not passing his medical as an excuse to change the conditions of the contract.

The report adds that the Blues made a proposal to acquire 50% of Omorodion’s rights, which was rejected outright by both club and player.

Relevo state that Atletico are upset with how Chelsea have behaved and tensions between the clubs is said to be “very high.”

The La Liga outfit are reportedly dependent on Omorodion leaving in order to complete their move for Gallagher and Relevo claim they feel disrespected by what’s transpired.

It appears unlikely that the Omorodion deal will be revived and Chelsea are now in talks with Atletico over the possibility of signing Joao Felix, with the club reportedly prepared to consider a sale for around €50m.

Felix spent time on loan at Chelsea during the 2022/2023 season and scored four goals in 20 appearances, but they didn’t make his move permanent and he spent last season on loan at Barcelona.

It would be quite the turnaround if Felix ends up back at Chelsea with Mauricio Pochettino having said no to signing him last summer, and it will be interesting to know what Enzo Maresca’s thoughts on the 24-year-old are.
