Chelsea fire sale gathers pace as they agree deal to sell 21-year-old star

Burnley have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign defender Bashir Humphreys according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are set for a busy end to the window and are currently looking to complete deals for Joao Felix and Victor Osimhen, whilst they also need to offload a number of players.

Progress has been slow on outgoings this summer, with Ian Maatsen and Omari Hutchinson the only sales of note, whilst some talented youngsters have left on loan.

Humphreys set to join Burnley

A lot has been documented about Chelsea’s squad size but it appears the Blues are making some inroads into reducing it.

Diego Moreira has completed his move to Strasbourg and now Romano has reported the Humphreys is on his way to Burnley.

He took to X.com and said:

“EXCL: Burnley have agreed deal to sign Bashir Humphreys from Chelsea. Loan with mandatory buy clause, it will become permanent for 5 year contract. Burnley see Bashir as a key defender for now and the future.”

Ben Jacobs has reported that the 21-year-old is set to be present at Saturday’s game between Burnley and Cardiff.

Humphreys joined Chelsea from Reading under-18s back in 2019 and has had loan spells at German side SC Paderborn and Swansea.

The defender has featured regularly for Chelsea’s under-18 and under-21 sides but has only made two appearances for the first team.

A move to Burnley would be a good outcome and Humphreys knows the Championship having been at Swansea last season, whilst it gives him a realistic chance of playing Premier League football with the Clarets one of the favourites for promotion.

Truth be told it’s a move that is best for all parties involved and given the amount of competition for places at centre back it’s very unlikely that Humphreys would have broken into the first team picture at Stamford Bridge.
