Marcus Bettinelli feels like Chelsea are building something and the squad feels like it’s the closest and most “family like” it’s been over the last couple of years.
The Blues are currently on their pre-season tour of America and have their final game against Real Madrid on Tuesday before heading back to London to prepare for Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge against Inter Milan.
Chelsea have only won one of their four games on tour so far, but despite the results the Blues have shown signs they are starting to get to grips with what Enzo Maresca is asking of them and there is a clear identity and style of play starting to develop.
Chelsea squad most together it’s been over last couple of years
There’s been a large turnover of players at the club over the last couple of years and the squad is virtually unrecognisable from the side that won the Champions League in 2021.
With so many new faces it takes time to build up relationships both on and off the pitch, but third choice keeper Bettinelli believes the squad is the closest and most “family like” it’s been over the last couple of years.
“The closer we are off the pitch, it is only going to transcend on the pitch and both Reece and I were saying this feels like the closest and the most family like it has felt over the last couple of years,” he told Chelsea’s app.
Bettinelli also feels the club are building something and signs of that are starting to be seen on the pitch ahead of the new season.
“We are definitely building something and I think you are starting to see that on the pitch,” he added.
“Pre-season results are not always the be all and end all and the head coach has been saying the whole time that this is about the process and the plan.”
Whilst the 32-year-old doesn’t play as much as the rest of the players he’s still an important and popular part of the squad and certainly has big role to play off the pitch.
You can definitely tell how together this group are and they’re certainly the most likeable group of players the club have had in recent times, but everyone will now be hoping that togetherness off the pitch can transform into good results on it.
