“I felt a lot of pressure because of the club’s history” – Chelsea ace opens up on move to Stamford Bridge

Moises Caicedo has revealed he found it tough and felt a lot of pressure following his move to Chelsea last summer.

The Blues paid Brighton a British record £115m for the Ecuador international, and he initially struggled following his big money move having missed the majority of pre-season.

As the season progressed Caicedo started to find his feet and put in some impressive performances over the second half of the campaign, and even scored a goal of the season contender on the final day against Bournemouth.

The midfielder is preparing for his second season in Blue and is currently in America with the rest of the Chelsea squad as they prepare for the final game of their tour against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Following his exploits at the Copa America with Ecuador Caicedo didn’t feature in the first three games of the tour, but got his first taste of action as he started in the defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

Caicedo is going to be an important player for Chelsea next season and he’s likely to be a mainstay in the midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez, a partnership the Blues have invested over £200m in.

Speaking ahead of the game against Real Madrid the Ecuadorian reflected on his first season at Stamford Bridge and admitted he felt the pressure.

“At the beginning it was tough for me,” he told reporters.

“With the price, I always had to win. The pressure at Brighton was less. But I got used to it.

“I felt a lot of pressure because of the club’s history. But after the last four or five months, I felt more comfortable at the club.”

Chelsea will want Caicedo fit for the opening game of the season against City, so the next two games against Madrid and Inter Milan are really important for him to build fitness and match sharpness ahead of the new campaign.
