“He’s an amazing player” – Chelsea ace heaps praise on departing star

Moises Caicedo has described Conor Gallagher as an amazing player and said he enjoys playing alongside him, as the midfielder prepares to move to Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher’s future has been a topic of conversation for the last 18 months, but a solution has finally been reached and the 24-year-old is set to join Atletico in a deal worth £33.7m.

The situation was in danger of turning sour with reports suggesting Gallagher would be banished from first team training on his return to Cobham, whilst he also turned down an offer of a new deal at Stamford Bridge three times.

Gallagher is set to fly to Madrid on Tuesday to complete the formalities of his move to the Spanish capital, where he’s expected to sign a five year deal, which reportedly could be worth £200,000 per week when bonuses are taken into consideration.

His soon to be former team-mates are currently in America preparing for the final game of their pre-season tour against Real Madrid on Tuesday and Caicedo described Gallagher as an amazing player when asked about him in the pre-match press conference.

Caicedo has described Gallagher as an amazing player.

“All I can say is Conor is a top player,” he told reporters.

“I enjoy playing alongside him. He’s an amazing player. That’s it.”

Gallagher and Caicedo played alongside each other on multiple occasions in Chelsea’s midfield last season and put in some really good performances together as the Blues secured a top six finish.

Attention will now turn to whether the Blues will seek a replacement for Gallagher in the window, but The Athletic have reported that it’s highly unlikely they will.

Chelsea signed Kieran Dewsbury-Hall this summer, who many saw as a Gallagher replacement, whilst they also have talented youngsters Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu on their books, so signing another midfielder doesn’t make any sense.
