Chelsea ace held talks with surprise club over deadline day move

Carney Chukwuemeka held talks with German side Frankfurt on Friday but a move failed to materialise according to reports.

The Blues had a busy end to the window and whilst they were unable to sign Victor Osimhen they did complete the signing of Jadon Sancho and importantly moved a number of players on.

Ben Chilwell remains at the club, but Raheem Sterling has joined Arsenal on loan, whilst Armando Broja completed a late loan move to Everton with an option to buy for £30m.

Chukwuemeka remains at Chelsea

The Blues didn’t move on as many players as they would have liked but transfer windows in Holland, Portugal and Turkey remain open so they potentially have options there.

One player who was perhaps expected to leave was Chukwuemeka and the 20-year-old hasn’t featured for the cub since the second game of pre-season against Celtic.

There were reports on Friday linking him with a move to West Ham and other suggestions that he had been discussed with Manchester United as part of a deal of for Sancho.

However, journalist Rahman Osman has reported he heard Chukwuemeka was in talks with Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt over a possible move.

If Chukwuemeka doesn’t agree a move elsewhere before all the transfer windows close then he faces the prospect of playing next to no football until January unless Maresca has a shock change of mind.

The 20-year-old joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in a deal worth £20m in 2022, but despite showing glimpses of his obvious talent, the midfielder has been plagued by injury issues, making just 27 appearances across two seasons.

Competition for places is fierce in midfield and it’s very hard to see where Chukwuemeka gets any minutes in the current set-up and he’s was even left out of the match day squad for both legs of the Europa Conference League play-off against Swiss side Servette.
