Chelsea could make late offer for Premier League ace before window closes

Chelsea may test Brentford’s resolve for Ivan Toney late in the window with an offer of a loan with an obligation to buy according to reports.

The Blues are set to be one of the busiest clubs in the final few weeks of the window as they are still looking to sign a striker, whilst they also need to move on a number of players.

The club thought they had their man after agreeing a deal worth £34.5m with Atletico Madrid for Samu Omorodion and everything was supposedly agreed on the player side only for the deal to collapse on Sunday evening after a major issue with finalising his contract.

Chelsea could test Brentford’s resolve for Toney

Chelsea remain interested in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but negotiations have so far proved difficult with the Blues reportedly wanting a loan deal for the Nigerian.

It was reported on Monday that the Stamford Bridge outfit could be monitoring as many as four different situations to see if the right opportunity presents itself so sign a striker before the window closes.

One such player could be Toney and The Independent have reported that whilst Brentford are still holding out for £60m for the England international Chelsea could test their resolve late in the window with a loan offer with an obligation to buy.

The report adds that Chelsea have been put off by Brentford’s valuation but have kept an open interest in the striker’s situation.

The Blues were strongly linked with a move for Toney in January along with Arsenal but Brentford were thought to want £100m for the 28-year-old.

However, Toney only has a year left on his contract and Brentford run the risk of losing him on a free next summer, and interested parties such as Chelsea could be biding their time before moving late in the window to test their resolve which could be a good strategy.
