Jadon Sancho has had a very rocky time with Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United, and it finally looks like things are improving now.
The winger has kissed and made up with his manager, and after a good half season back on loan at Borussia Dortmund last season, he’s been reintegrated into the fold at Old Trafford.
Given all that, it’s a weird time to see him linked with Chelsea. But that’s just what Caughtoffside have done, picking up on report in Germany which claim that the £250,000 former Man City academy graduate could be on the move.
Two potential setups are mentioned – a transfer fee plus two academy players for Sancho, or a loan with an obligation to buy where we pay his vast wages in full. Neither of them sounds remotely tempting.
An unlikely – and nonsensical – deal for Chelsea
This move is a totally silly one, and one we can’t get behind even for a minute. If Sancho’s relative success in the Bundesliga compared to the Premier League has told us anything, it’s that he simply doesn’t have the explosiveness he needs to be a one on one winger in the English top flight. Moving club isn’t going to change that.
We hate the idea of signing Joao Felix too, but at least bringing him in allows the sporting directors to get their sale of Conor Gallagher done. Bringing in Sancho does nothing to improve our team – if anything it just helps a rival out in getting an unwanted player off their books.
We didn’t spend all this time bringing down the wage bill only to then sign the most overpaid player in the league. In fact, it’s hard to think of many moves we could get involved in which would create a more negative reaction than this one.
