Sky Sports reporter provides huge update as Chelsea’s striker search takes a twist

Chelsea have made a late move to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

It’s set to be a busy last few days of the window for the Blues with the club looking to move on as many as seven players, whilst they continue their search for a new striker.

Chelsea have been locked in talks with Napoli over a potential move for Victor Osimhen who they want on loan, but that doesn’t appeal to the Nigerian who has also turned down an approach from Saudi side Al-Ahli.

Chelsea make move for Toney

It’s no secret the Blues have been looking for a striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson this summer and despite signing Marc Guiu they are looking for another option at the top end of the pitch.

Chelsea have been linked with a host of names across Europe including the likes of Jhon Duran and Jonathan David, whilst they are strongly linked with a move for Osimhen at the moment, although a deal is viewed is difficult.

However, in big news Solhekol has reported that Chelsea have now made a move to sign Toney as they want a proven goalscorer as their number nine.

He took to X.com and said:

“Chelsea have made a move to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford. They want a proven goalscorer to be their new No. 9. He will fit into their wage structure and transfer fee will be reasonable. Toney has incredible offer from Saudi but Chelsea can offer Premier League football.”

Toney has one year remaining on his current deal at Brentford and the Bees are thought to value him at around £50m.

The England international has an offer on the table from Saudi side Al-Ahli reportedly worth close to €60m over three years but they haven’t reached an agreement with Brentford over a fee.

Making a move for Toney makes sense given he knows the Premier League and is a proven goalscorer in the division, plus with just one year left on his deal there’s an opportunity for Chelsea to get a good deal at less than what his market value would otherwise be.

There’s a chance it could just be a brief put out to put pressure on Osimhen to make a decision but with just a few days left in the window there isn’t long to wait for an answer.
