Major headache for Chelsea as rival club turn down opportunity to sign out of favour star

Manchester United have rejected the opportunity to make a move for Ben Chilwell but Raheem Sterling is still being discussed according to reports.

Chelsea are set to be one of the busiest clubs over the final few days of the window as they continue to search for a new striker, whilst they also need to move several players on.

Perhaps the biggest headache for the Blues is finding new homes for Chilwell and Sterling with such little time left in the window and seemingly not many options.

United reject opportunity to sign Chilwell

Chilwell has been at Stamford Bridge since 2020 after joining from Leicester in a deal worth £50m and the left back was a major part of the Champions League triumph in 2021.

Under Thomas Tuchel he was one of, if not the best left wing back in the world and was a top performer for the Blues.

However, a series of injury issues have really hampered Chilwell over the past few seasons and he’s not played regularly since 2022.

The writing has seemingly been on the wall for a while and it was made clear during pre-season he wasn’t part of the plans and the England international only played 64 minutes.

Chelsea are trying to find solutions for Chilwell before the end of the window.

Chilwell, who reportedly earns in the region of £200,000 per week is training away from the first team squad, but doesn’t appear to have many suitors.

There were links to Manchester United, but The Independent have now reported the Red Devils have turned down the opportunity to sign the left back.

The report adds that United have decided to pursue their own options over Chilwell, whilst there was a big gap on the finances involved in a potential deal.

United remain in talks over a possible swap deal involving Sterling and Jadon Sancho, but there’s still a number of issues to overcome before that becomes a realistic possibility.

In regards to Chilwell, Chelsea face a difficult situation and may have to accept a loan offer and revisit the situation next summer.
