Lack of Champions League football is really hindering Chelsea in one area

Chelsea are likely begin the Premier League season without a front of shirt sponsor for the second consecutive year according to reports.

The Blues kick off their campaign against Manchester City on August 18th and are yet to get a sponsorship deal sorted.

During their pre-season tour of America the club played with last season’s sponsors Infinite Athlete on their shirts and that will likely be the case for Sunday’s friendly against Inter Milan.

Chelsea set to begin the season without shirt sponsor

The Sun report that the Blues look set to begin the season without a front of shirt sponsor because Premier League rules stipulate club’s can only have one sponsor through the season, although a change is permitted in exceptional circumstances such as a sponsor running into financial difficulties.

Chelsea are struggling to find a lucrative shirt sponsor due to a lack of Champions League football and they spent the first part of last season without a sponsor before agreeing a one season deal with Infinite Athlete which was said to be worth around £40m.

The club are reportedly in talks with Chinese tire companies Sailun Tire and LingLong Tire, although it’s not stipulated what type of sponsorship it would be.

Infinite Athlete are set to become the club’s sleeve sponsor, whilst Chelsea have agreed a deal with Crypto company BingX to be their training kit sponsor.

It doesn’t reflect well that Chelsea are once again set to start the season without a shirt sponsor, and the most likely outcome is they agree a short term deal and hope they qualify for the Champions League so they can agree a more lucrative long term sponsorship deal.

Despite not being able to agree a deal for a shirt sponsor the Blues haven’t struggled to complete deals in the market and they are closing in on two more signings in striker Samu Omorodion and winger Pedro Neto.
