Enzo Maresca faces possible headache ahead of Servette clash

Chelsea were without Pedro Neto, Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia in training on Wednesday in a potential blow to Enzo Maresca.

The Blues are currently preparing for the second leg of their Europa Conference League play-off against Servette on Thursday night and have a 2-0 advantage from the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Having beaten Wolves 6-2 last weekend and with a game against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Maresca is likely to make a number of changes to his starting line-up.

Neto and Gusto miss training

Truth be told Chelsea shouldn’t be having too many issues against their Swiss counterparts, but ahead of the game they could have been handed a potential blow.

Hayters TV reported that there was no sign of Gusto or Lavia whilst Neto didn’t train with load management given as the official reason.

Chelsea fans will be hoping it’s nothing more than a precaution but given the injury issues both Lavia and Neto have had in the past it’s bound to be a slight cause for concern.

A number of players missed training ahead of Thursday’s game against Servette.

Lavia missed virtually the entire last campaign but has come back and started the season strongly, but he missed the win against Wolves with a minor hamstring issue which everyone will hope is nothing more than that.

In regards to Neto you can understand why Maresca might be cautious with him given he’s not played a full 90 minutes since February and fans will just hope he’s being rested rather than there already being an injury issue.

Injuries have been a major problem for Chelsea over the past few seasons and is something the club desperately need to get on top of and a number of changes have been made in the medical department over the summer.

At this early stage of the season the Blues seemingly haven’t suffered any major injury issues and everyone associated with the club will hope that continues to be the case for the majority of the season.
